Shenandoah National Park, Great Meadows

Early morning rain shower had everyone scrambling to cover up and take in.  I left out the chairs, table and firewood from the night before, so I put up the awning low and moved the firewood and went back to bed.  It was much better than the middle of the night scratching on the table outside.  I was sound asleep when I got up and took care of that, so I have no idea what was going on then. Shenandoah National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway

We started the day off with a big breakfast of sunnyside up eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast coffee and OJ.  We ate outside under the awning.  It was very resortish.  Big Meadows is one of the quietest campgrounds that I have ever been to.  There is a large RV up the hill from us, and they run a generator in the morning during the allowable hours.  It’s barely audible and sounds like an air conditioner running somewhere undeterminable. Shenandoah National Park Day 1

Last night was a long night, hot and humid and the trees dripped making it sound like golf balls were hitting the roof.  I woke at about 4:30 AM when it got a little cooler.  The woods around us were filled with fog, and they looked alien, like they make scenes in a southern mystery movie but I was too tired to take a picture.  I’ll remember it for a long time.  Sometimes the mind is a better camera than one from Nikon. Prince William Forest Park

Pete, Betsy and Annabelle moved this weekend into a smaller house in the Triangle, VA area.  Trying to be a smart dad, I made reservations in the Prince William Forest Park (Map) that we wouldn’t get in the way.  We had a terrific time with them, and the park was a great place to visit.  I’m looking forward to getting there again so that we can do more exploring.
