We started the day in a beautiful Corps of Engineers Park just outside Temple or Benton Texas, depending on what literature you read. The Live Oak Ridge Campground was just that. Beautiful open fields with live Oaks just sprouting their new 2026 leaves. It was difficult to leave, as the morning was a beautiful spring morning. Clear skies, 65° with a gentle breeze. Malaquiet Beach – Padre Island National Seashore
After visiting Starbase at the very southern end of Padre Island, we decided to stop at one of our favorite places. It’s also on Padre Island, just South of Corpus Christi, Texas. We’ve both been here a few times, in great weather, and just ahead of an ice and snowstorm. This time, the weather was beautiful, and we managed to snag a spot at Malaquiet Campground located in the Padre Island National Seashore. We had time for three days and secured a spot with a clear view of the surf. There are no hookups, but we’ve gotten accustomed to the new RV, so staying was much easier than anticipated. South Padre Island and Starbase
We awoke to a beautiful summer day at the Isla Blanca SP, at the tip of South Padre Island, TX. The morning was bright, sunny, with a few clouds with a lovely warm breeze and a 75° temperature. A perfect day! Everything reminded me of one of those glorious summer days on the East End of Long Island in my youth. The sun set the night before was pretty OK

Boudin and King Cake
I like Louisiana, as the place has character. The rest of the world wasn’t moved in and made it seem like some American version of East Germany. The residents, especially the western portion of the state, home to the Cajun, seem most resistant. With their crackling and Boudin shops, Crawfish restaurants, and other not completely intellectually processed places of commerce, they are, thankfully, like no place other. Continue reading
