The Road to Albuquerque and Independence

I’m not sure where the summer went. It was challenging on a number of levels, but good things happened. When I left New Jersey to head out to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, (scheduled for October 1), on Friday, September 16, I wasn’t really prepared either mentally or organizationally. When I left NJ, the RV had been cleaned (floors cabinets polished, carpet shampooed) and most of the cabinets had been examined and those things I haven’t used in a while were removed. The vibe at leaving was that not everything was as organized as I wanted, or that there wasn’t a state of being that I was comfortable with. Continue reading

Charles Mill Lake Park and Repairs

This morning we’re waiting at the local Mercedes dealership in Mansfield Ohio, the Mansfield Motor Group, awaiting a diagnosis and repair of our 2008 Winnebago View.  We were up at 6:30, had breakfast, put everything together for getting on the road and went to the dump station so we’d travel light.  It was freezing last night.  There was frost everywhere and the connector to the discharge end of the dump hose apparently wasn’t on tight enough.  Oops, a shitty start to the morning.  Cleaned everything up, and were off to the repair shop.  We made it there on time, talked to the service manager, Jason Resendez, who said he would do his best.  Our repair appointment is at 3PM, and we’re hoping to get in earlier. Mammoth Cave, then on to Ohio

Last night was a beast.  We went to sleep at about 9:30 CST which made it late for us at 10:30 EST.  The air-conditioning in the RV made it tolerable and I, always the optimist, figured that as the outside temperature dropped, and the inside temperature rose, we would have the lower humidity on our side.  Put another check in the wrong column.  At midnight it was 82 in the RV with not a breath of air.  I opened all the windows and vents and the temperature dropped to 81 and the humidity went up.  We switched from the upper bunk to the lower where I looked like a 12” long wurst in an 8” roll.  I drank water so I could sweat better and we laid there and roasted all night long. We would have moved outside where we had a better option for catching a breeze but I didn’t; want to set up a free buffet for the bugs, so we laid there and cooked. Continue reading
